In animation, gestures and expressiveness play a key role in bringing a character to life, especially through the hands. For this project, I explored how different hand poses can communicate emotions, attitudes, and personality traits. By studying the character and their personality, I developed a range of hand expressions that reflect how they might move and interact with the world around them.
This piece was created as part of my final university project.
For this university project, I collaborated on the character development for an animated short film. My focus was on helping shape the personality of an alien chef who needed to feel curious, slightly clumsy, sweet, and funny.
To bring these traits to life, we paid close attention to the character’s facial expressions, particularly the eyes and mouth, as well as the gestures and expressiveness of the hands. Every detail played a role in making the character feel believable and allowing their personality to come through naturally.
This is an example of the thought process behind character design and how visual choices can help translate a character’s personality into their appearance, expressions, and body language.
For the animated teaser, I also worked on prop creation and background design, exploring different creative directions for the character’s props and environment.
Using everyday objects and elements as inspiration, we reimagined them within a completely different universe that felt connected to the character’s world. This process helped us develop the visual direction and bring the environment to life in the way we envisioned.
During my time working with adidas and developing graphic prints for apparel, I found inspiration to explore new design ideas for the brand.
This personal creative project brings together a series of illustrations inspired by adidas’ identity and brand heritage, exploring different themes and events such as Running Clubs, Canada Day, Originals (OG), and Sports.
The project showcases my creative process, from the initial rough sketches and concept exploration to the final refined illustrations with clean linework and colour.
